About

‘Powlett Jones came about as a front for my ideas and creations, this is all about artistic confidence and probably menopause, but whatever the real deep reason (I’m not really sure I know), Powlett Jones was born.

Okay, I guess if we do need to get into it before we move on, then Powlett Jones – David Powlett - Jones from my most favoured of books, ‘To Serve Them All Our Days’ by   R.F Delderfied, is described in a ‘Historical Novel Society Review’ as a ‘genuinely warm, comforting novel’ – but! ‘my’ adoption of Powlett Jones is about the central character David Powlett - Jones; shell shocked miner’s son who falls into teaching between the wars, neither thing of course that I can directly empathise with.

However, why David Powlett - Jones is my hero is because he is opinionated, gets it wrong, nearly gives up, makes enemies and makes friends, but ultimately is where he should be, he makes a difference and he is guided by the best of men, Algy Herries who understands him.

This journey resonated with me about my life, my psyche and my abilities and my friends, so, after a career in social work, I know I need to try to do what has been in me throughout, not as noble as teaching perhaps but an expression of self all the same.

It is now,  after many years of dabbling and creating and usually giving things away, I agreed with myself (usually, I can get an eventual agreement) that a website would give me the facility to put on show my things for others, who might like them whilst enabling me to stay out of the way a bit –

Oh! Yes, I’ve done the craft shows, years ago and met some wonderful crafters and artists and people who were genuinely kind and interested in what I produce, but it was always so difficult for me to be in that forum, so, again website wins for me.
